The Cove -- rental

OH MY GOD!!! I am watching this right now at home. It's been tough since about half an hour in, but I'm in tears! I'm ready to throw up and I'm furious!! I'm a huge animal lover and I'm shocked!!

This is a wonderfully done documentary! I think these guys did a great job!! If you have a tough stomach, I suggest you watch this. Again, it's very tough to watch!!! And please please please don't watch it alone at night by yourself like I did.

If proceeds from this movie went to research (Which I know it wouldn't but these guys do enough already), I'd buy it twenty times over!! I think people should see this!! They need to see what's going on!!

But once again, it's very tough to watch!!! And now, I just need a hug. ;)

Planet 51 -- rental

I rented this movie this weekend from Netflix. I'm very happy I didn't waste any more money on this one. It is the new Disney cartoon flick and stars the voices of Dwayne Johnson and Justin Long. It was a cute idea, but I couldn't tell if it was a kid's movie with one or two adult references or an adult type movie (like Shrek and Cars) that was also aimed for the adults but did a bad job.

I wasn't entertained enough to stop working while watching it, but it did hold my attention completely at a few times. I'm sure the kids loved it alot more than I did, but I'm also sure I wasn't the target audience. :)

If you like Disney movies, I'd give it a go. It's not going to win any Oscars, but it was an entertaining back drop of a movie. :)

So, next time you need a babysitter little's helper, give it a go. :) Let me know what you think.

Law Abiding Citizen -- rental

I got this movie as a Netflix rental when it came out and woohee did I enjoy it! Jerard Butler was the main lead and mmmm is he yummy! His accent and his body don't hurt the films :)

It was an action movie set in the future and with a new idea. It was a little science fiction-y and a bit suspense. I didn't really want to see this in the theater and I now I could have. I wouldn't mind paying theater nighttime prices for this, but I'd bring my own snacks. Ssshhh :)

It was a nice idea, no "never ending fight scenes" and it even had some female roles.

If you are in the mood for an action type movie running around and jumping and hiding, I liked it. I recommend it for any action fans!

Crazyheart

I saw this movie in the theaters and I enjoyed it. It was a bit slow at some parts and a bit draggy, but if you are sixty years old, you are gonna love it! :) I went with my mom and grandfather and I was the youngest person in the theater by like a few decades. :)

Jeff Bridges did a great job!! So did Maggie Gyllenhaal! It was a bit slower than I thought it would be and much more of an adult type movie, but I enjoyed it. I am glad I got to see it on the big screen since he won his nomination, I thought he deserved it. I was treated to this movie so that was nice. I would have been a bit bummed if I had paid theater nighttime price for this, but the matinee price I could have handled. :)

Overall, I would recommend waiting for rental and watching it at home on your own time frame on a rainy day or weekend. Get some popcorn and maybe even a glass of wine.

Enjoy :)

2012 -- rental

This movie was fantastic!! I saw it as a rental. I tried to see it in the theaters and I wish I had. The huge screen would have been wonderful with all these special effects. Watching it on my tv at home wasn't bad it just didn't do it justice.

From the very beginning the story and few effects kept me on the edge of my seat. With a running time of 2 1/2 hours I am glad I saw it at home where I had to pause it often for bathroom breaks and to stretch my legs. But, I was always excited to push the play button again. I would have been happy to pay the full theater nighttime price for this movie. I loved the special effects and the story lines. When "Day After Tomorrow" came out, I was excited. But I think this movie surpassed that in again, both effects and story line.

If you like these special effect-y movies about the end of the world, as I do, then you will totally enjoy it. IF you don't, you will hate it. :) Either way, I recommend it. It was very entertaining. Enjoy. :)

The Informant! -- rental

I rented this movie a few weeks ago. Netflix had it as a "Very long wait" and I really wanted to see it when it was in the theaters, so I went to Blockbuster and got it. I really enjoyed it! I thought Matt Damon did a great job! I loved him in all the Ocean's movies and I thought this character was very similar. Matt Damon gained like 40 pounds for this movie. I don't think it was necessary, but it helped his character.

This movie was cute, different, entertaining and even funny at some points. :) I would have had no problem paying theater matinee price for this movie but I don't think I would have paid theater nighttime price. It was worth the $5 Blockbuster fee though and most definitely would be worth the RedBox or Netflix price!

If you like Matt Damon and you like new ideas, I totally recommend this movie! It was thoroughly enjoyable!!

Precious

I saw this movie in the theaters and I must say, it was amazing! The story was amazing, and the actors and actresses were so well picked!! Monique in a role that wasn't comedy didn't look too appealing, but she nearly took my breath away. I think it definitely deserved the nomination for best picture!

It was so worth the full price of the theater, even though we had an extra bonus of two couples fighting in the actual theater during the movie.

This story was just amazing!! Sometimes a little tough to realize real people wrote this and live like this, but overall a must see! I highly recommend seeing this movie on the big screen or as a rental. I think it comes out on dvd in the next week or so. It's not something I'd purchase when it comes out, but I totally think you should rent it.

Just make sure to have a box of kleenex with you when you watch. Enjoy. :)

Everybody's Fine -- rental

I rented this movie last weekend and I couldn't even finish watching it. The previews made it seem like a comedy about a struggling family. In fact it was about a recently widowed father of four grown children. He invites all his children home for a "special announcement" and one by one they each cancel on him. So, then he goes to visit each of them and they pass him off on to the next sibling. I have never felt so sad or depressed for the character. I had to turn it off half way through as I hadn't laughed once but I was feeling more and more like I wanted to take a life.

If you are in the mood to be depressed and think about when your spouse dies and all your children forget about you, then yes, give this a go. If you are looking to continue happy in life, then I'd skip it. Especially if it's the last movie on Earth.

If someone disagrees, PLEASE let me know! I'm curious as to why they made this so depressing and I'm also curious how it ended. :)

6:18 PM

Surrogates -- rental

I watched this movie as a rental over a rainy day weekend and it was perfect! I didn't really want to see it when it was in the theaters, but it was pretty good. Bruce Willis is the main lead and the old dead guy from "I, Robot" is of course, the old dead guy is in this movie too. I think he has a contract as just being "The Old Dead Guy" in sort of science fiction movies.

Anyways, it was, I believe, a new idea. It was different and actually had me entertained til the end. I am glad I didn't pay $12.50 in the theater for it, but it was worth the $2 from the library! Otherwise, I'd recommend waiting for free on Netflix.

So, if you have a rainy day coming up or a sick day, I'd recommend it. But I wouldn't spend more than a few bucks on it. And if you see it and disagree, let me know. I'm interested! :)

6:02 PM

A Serious Man -- rental

This movie was nominated this year for Best Picture at the Oscars. I watched it as a rental and thought it was interesting. It was definitely a dark noir type of film. A traditional Jewish family growing up in the 1960's going through non-traditional issues. It was definitely interesting and I'm sure I was not the target audience. I am not sure how it ended up on the Best Picture list but I am open to any discussion about it! As always I should say! I'm always open for discussion about movies. :)

Ok, so I'm glad I didn't pay $12.50, and I'm a little upset I spent the $5.00 on it at Blockbuster, but it was a slow week and I saw a new movie. :)

I'd recommend it if you are into dark noir and indie type films. Or just anything out of the ordinary. Again, it's more of an adult film, wait not that kind of adult film! The kind our parents might relate to more!

I felt so bad for the main character the whole movie. He is a hard working husband who just wants to provide for his family and be happy and he keeps getting the bad end of the stick. So, if you aren't into black noir or depressing movies, I'd skip it.

5:51 PM

Smokin Aces 2 -- rental

Boy am I glad I didn't pay $12.50 for this in the theaters or even $5.00 at Blockbuster. If you enjoyed the first "Smokin Aces" and you are a girl, you probably won't enjoy the second one; lots of long gun fight scenes and some exploding clowns. If you are a boy, you're gonna love it! It has lots of long gun fight scenes and some exploding clowns. :)

This movie had as many characters as the first movie, but none were A listers. Tom Beringer was the biggest name in this movie and boy did he stink!

Overall, I'd recommend the movie if you liked the first one. There were many shoot em up scenes, twists and turns and even some brains in a helmet. It's somewhat entertaining, just be sure to pay attention, just like you had to do with the first one! :)

9:22 AM

Post Grad -- rental

When this movie was in theaters, I thought it would be cute. It looked vaguely familiar to my recent life so I thought it would be a nice little movie. Michael Keaton is in it and Carol Burnett does a few funny scenes. I thought Alexis Bledel did a good job. If this movie was meant for kids right out of college and their parents, it fits perfectly. If they were going to entertain the masses, it failed on me.

I am very glad I didn't pay $12 to see this in theaters. I'm even happier I didn't waste $4.99 renting it from Blockbuster, and thank goodness for Netflix.

I would recommend it to friends who are either very cheesy and silly, or those who have nothing better to do with their time and don't mind wasting 88 minutes they will never get back.

Zach Gilford, Matt Serasin from "Friday Night Lights" was in it and he did a pretty good job. Other than that, didn't have much else going for it.

All the dialogue was predictable and Michael Keaton was just too scatter brained and silly for me.

So, if you are looking for silly mindless some what entertainment, this is the movie for you. :)

7:58 PM

Reservoir Dogs

So, I finally sat down and rented this movie and watched it start to finish. I did love all the male characters. Steve Buscemi was great as Mr. Pink. And I loved Mr. Blonde. But, other than that....I didn't get it! What is all the cult love about?!?!

I thought it was well written. It was like the entire movie was chapters 24 through 40 in a book with 50 chapters. It brought you into the movie in the middle of the book and took us out without answering some questions. As only a Quentin film will do I guess.

It wasn't nearly as gore-y as I thought it would be. I did hit fast forward during one part, but other than that, it was all ok.

When I originally asked friends about this, I noticed more females than males had seen this and had recommendations. I thought it would become clear why after I watched it, but I just....don't....get....it!

If anyone has any comments, I welcome them. So basically, unless you are a huge Quentin fan, I don't see any huge need to see this. It didn't move me or make me think. It just made me scratch my head and laugh.

9 - by Tin Burton & in animation

This is a dvd rental....NOT the musical in the theaters right now. It was done by Tim Burton, the same guy who did "Nightmare before Christmas". I never saw "Nightmare" and I had no intention of seeing this. But I've seen everything else at blockbuster right now and thought it deserved a review.

This movie was actually alot better than I thought it would be. I was actually pausing it when I had to walk away. I usually don't do that if something is just on for noise and not getting my full attention. ;) Anyways, it was an ok movie. I'm glad I didn't pay more than $2 to rent it. But it was a very different, very new idea.

It's a post apocalyptic world and all the humans are dead. Dolls are given live by machines and these machines are running everything. It has the voices of Elijah Wood (from Lord of the Rings) and John C Reilly (Stepbrothers). The voices sort of matched the characters, but I wasn't loving it. You know how in some cartoons, the characters look like the voices? This one, not so much. If you are open to "watching anything" , then give this a go. Otherwise, I wouldn't rush out to rent it. Throw it on your Netflix list just put it in the middle of your queue. :)

It was animation and again, a different idea. I mean, it is the future after all the humans are dead. And from a doll's point of view. It was only an hour and a half, and I can honestly say, I was entertained!

So, I guess in this case....see you at the rental line. :) Don't forget the ice cream!

It's Complicated

Caught this movie last night. It was alot cuter than I thought it would be. Overall, I enjoyed the movie! :) Meryl Streep was delightful as an older woman having to chose between her ex-husband who cheated on her and a new beau, played by Steve Martin. I must say Steve Martin's performance of an emotionally fragile, yet adorable new beau, made half of the movie for me. John Krasinski as the daughter's fiance made the other half. His facial expressions were picture perfect each time.

Aside from the older woman next to me who not only answered her phone in the middle of the movie, but had a 3 minute conversation, it was a delightful movie-going experience. It was worth the night time ticket price I paid.

I don't think I'm going to purchase this one. I will make sure to catch it when it comes out on DVD from Netflix, but it's not a building block in my collection. :)

I will of course recommend this movie!! It was a new idea, the characters worked wonderfully with each other, and it made me laugh throughout the movie. I think the running time of 2 hours could have been cut down a bit, but nothing to complain about. Just make sure to hit the restroom before you sit down.

I say go see it. If you miss it in theaters, it will be just as cute as at home on DVD. Doesn't matter where you see it, just see it! :)

8:40 PM

Up in the Air

I went and saw this movie last week during the holiday rush :)

I enjoyed this movie!! I laughed, I cried, and I hardly looked at my watch. I am aware my last three reviews have all been positive to go to the movies and not wait for DVD. I just think some studios have stepped up the creativity lately. I'm not going to spoil the movie, but I think it was a new idea that hit home with the recent recession. I think the main characters were great and the story was different and refreshing!!!

It was worth the matinee ticket price at the expensive new theater. And I would consider buying this movie when it comes out. I will not rush out on day one, but I will consider it the next few WalMart trips. :)

This was a great movie that I am very much recommending. Again, I really like the main characters. Jason Bateman who has a small roll seems to be popping up everywhere lately, but he was good in this small role. Anna Kendrick was great in this roll!!! I'm sure we will be seeing her on the big screen soon.

If you haven't seen this movie yet, I urge you to go see it! I think it is very much worth the price of a theater ticket to see it on the big screen. :) If not, you will still enjoy it on DVD.

So, I say.....go see it in the theaters. And maybe, I'll see you at the concession stand. :)

12:02 PM

The Blindside

I went and saw this movie a few weeks ago, so I apologize for the late review. :)

Ok.....I REALLY enjoyed this movie!! I laughed, I cried, and I hardly looked at my watch. Since the rapid increase in movie ticket price, it has been tough to find a movie I really enjoyed. But this movie takes the cake!!

Even the man next to me, whose wife was sitting behind us, laughed and cried. This movie has comedy, football, and togetherness. A great movie for everyone!

It was definitely worth the night time ticket price. And I would definitely buy this movie on DVD. I won't rush out to buy it, but it may be in the cart next WalMart trip. :)

I can not recommend this movie fast enough. I find "based on true stories" are usually done well, but this one, is top dog! Sandra Bullock was very believable as a Southern mother and had me jealous of her no holds-barred attitude within minutes. Far surprising was Tim McGraw's fatherly role. He was easy to stare at on a huge screen and who knew he could act so well!

If you haven't seen this movie yet, I urge you to go see it! It's the first movie in a long time I would consider seeing a second time in the theater.

So, I say.....go see it in the theaters. And maybe, I'll see you at the concession stand. :)

11:34 AM

Sherlock Holmes

First theater review.....Enjoy. :)

I went and saw this movie on opening day, Jewish Movie Day. I definitely enjoyed the movie!! While waiting in line with my fellow moviegoers, I learned Sherlock Holmes' character is one of the most famously portrayed in movies. He has been portrayed over 70 different ways by 200 different actors. I have personally only seen about three or four of these, but Robert Downey Jr was my favorite.

It was not a long movie and kept me entertained the entire time. It was worth the matinee price I paid. I laughed, I jumped a few times and I even didn't mind watching Downey's well exercised naked torso dancing around the screen.

I would not purchase the dvd the day it came out. But if there was a second movie or sequel, and I enjoyed that one, I would buy it.

Not only would I recommend this movie to friends, it motivated me to start this blog! Yes this movie is "another remake" of an old classic, but well done. The movie didn't need to rely on explosions or CGI, it was clever writing and a good story that sold me. It had some good comedy and even made my 86 year old grandpa laugh out loud a few times.

So, I say.....go see it in the theaters. And maybe, I'll see you at the concession stand.
